RussianMind Club has gathered again on the 24th of April – this time to focus on one of the most common stereotypes: do Russians party better? Are Russian parties indeed the craziest?

Saturday 16 March marked another successful Festival Maslenitsa, as the popular Russian spring celebration filled Trafalgar Square. The largest Russian celebration of culture, art, music and food outside of Russia, the free event returned for its fifth year, presenting audiences with the best in Russian popular entertainment.

The SLOVO Festival, which began yesterday for the fourth time in London proves once again that Russian literature has a lot of admirers in the UK.

On the 2nd February the Soviet Memorial Trust Fund (SMTF), in co-operation with Federal Agency Rossotrudnichestvo in the UK, the Russian Embassy and the Society for Co-operation in Russian and Soviet Studies (SCRSS), held a special event “Stalingrad, Zhukov and the Great Patriotic War” devoted to the 70th anniversary of the famous victory by the Soviet Army at the Battle of Stalingrad.

While entering the office of Rossotrudnichestvo guests had a chance to see the exhibition of sculptures “Defeat at Stalingrad” by British artist Robert Truscott.

The main part of the event included a lecture “Stalingrad, Zhukov and the Great Patriotic War” by Professor Geoffrey Roberts, a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and History and International Relations at University College Cork, Ireland. Professor Roberts has written extensively on World War II and the USSR and his recent books are Molotov – Stalin’s Cold Warrior (2012) and Stalin’s General: The Life of Georgy Zhukov (2012).

On 6^th December RussianMind Club was launched in London with a multimedia event on “Russians without Stereotypes”, hosted by Rossotrudnichestvo in Kensington High Street.

Coincidentally, the main cocktail of the networking part of the evening was mixed with cranberry juice; in Russian “cranberry” is a buzzword for tell-tale stereotypes.
