Beer & Partners London Investment Fair 2013

On 23 May 2013 Beer & Partners run their annual London Investment Fair, which over the last thirteen years has been a platform for direct communication between companies seeking funding with investment institutions and private high net worth individuals.

Enjoying the primary location of Central Hall Westminster, located opposite Westminster Abbey and adjacent to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the participants of the event had an opportunity to establish a direct dialogue “Face to Face”.

This year there were many exciting opportunities for investors - from companies who convert energy waste heat into electricity, to a company that reduces carbon emissions, to a phone app and a company who uses tobacco plants to make life-saving affordable medicines.

Foreign Affairs and Human Rights are topics never far from the news where Russia is concerned. In fact, I’m beginning to wonder if there is some cosmic conspiracy that leads our events, organised months in advance, to accidentally land within days of some Russian-related controversy.

Russia & CIS Express: A look at key issues and trends

By Nick Page

Following a challenging past year, when drought and heat-wave slowed down economic activity, Russia’s growth trajectory is firmly back on track. And with inflation predicted to recede in the second half of 2011, the climate for investment looks increasingly attractive.

This macro backdrop aligns favourably with government plans to privatise several state-owned enterprises through to 2013. And with a raft of business-friendly reforms scheduled – including the abolition of capital gains tax on long-term investments from 2011 – there are real causes for optimism.

Last month I joined a delegation of young political activists to the Russian Federation, where we met with politicians, journalists, cultural figures and opposition activists. The trip was organised by Rossotrudnichestvo, the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation – an organisation aimed at fostering friendly ties between Russia and other countries and promoting a more positive image of the country abroad.
